A woman accused of luring Kenyans with promises of employment in Canada and stealing millions of shillings from them was apprehended and detained at the Soweto Police Station in Nairobi County’s Kayole neighborhood.

The accused allegedly convinced young Kenyans to pay hundreds of thousands of shillings for employment in Canada.

“When she first arrived, she told us to send Ksh10,000 for medical expenses. Then an additional Ksh20,000 for passport processing.

“She requested that the remainder be sent via mobile money. When we sent the money, I inquired about the company’s name. From that day forward, she refused to answer my phone calls, lamented one of the victims.

Surprisingly, all of her victims were reportedly from Isena, Kisii County. The majority of victims traveled to Nairobi to pursue the case in which they lost their hard-earned money.

“She returned home and lied about taking people abroad. She lied to my parents about being able to bring me to Canada.

“My parents sold a piece of property and gave her Ksh400,000.” A man who fell for the woman’s con lamented, “I’ve stayed at home for nearly three years in hopes of traveling.”

The victims alleged that the suspect disappeared after receiving the money.

She was also alleged to have failed to provide proof of employment and return the funds.

Police initiated an investigation into the incident, with the suspect assisting.

Before the publication of this article, the accused had not yet made a statement.

Recently, a similar situation occurred in Uasin Gishu, where several young people were duped into joining a foreign employment scheme.

On March 10, an ad hoc committee of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly released a report detailing the possible scandal.

In 2021, prominent leaders popularized the fraudulent employment agency, which turned out to be a recruitment agency.

Parents did not pay tuition to foreign universities, placing their students in a precarious position.

Previously, on March 5, the County Government of Uasin Gishu was compelled to intervene after nearly 200 students from the county were nearly expelled from Finnish universities in what appeared to be a full-blown scandal.
