Defiance in Faith: Pastor Ezekiel Odero and Followers Hold Church Service Despite Police Order

On Sunday, Pastor Ezekiel Odero and members of his New Life Prayer Centre and Church attended a service, defying a police order to close the location due to his ongoing criminal investigation.

Pastor Ezekiel and fellow televangelist Paul Mackenzie are under investigation for the Shakahola tragedy in Kilifi County, which resulted in the starvation and deaths of more than a hundred people on Mackenzie’s orders.

Mr. Odero is under investigation for murder, suicide assistance, abduction, radicalization, genocide, crimes against humanity, child cruelty, fraud, money laundering, and accessory to crime.

He and his followers attended a church service in Mavueni, Kilifi County, in defiance of Coast Regional Coordinator Rhoda Onyancha’s order.

The adherents camped outside the church as early as 5 a.m., but police prevented them from entering until about 7.30 a.m., when Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari, attorneys for Pastor Odero, intervened.

Mr. Omari argued that no court order was issued to close the business and that Ms. Onyancha only gave the instruction orally.
