Cancer Battle: Kenyans Unite to Support Mustafa’s Fundraising Efforts

On Friday, May 5, Kenyans launched a fundraising campaign for artist Daudi Mustapha alias Colonel Mustafa, whose work on a construction site went viral.

In the video, the renowned artist is seen carrying blocks and ballast, sparking speculation that he may be bankrupt.

The artist admitted to a local media outlet that he struggled financially and was forced to take menial jobs to support his ailing mother.

He disclosed that his mother has cancer but was responding well to treatment.

“Mother had Cancer. “Because I needed to support her and had no other means to do so, I was forced to find employment of any kind to pay for her prescriptions,” he explained.

“Mother is currently undergoing tests for chemotherapy. She is also undergoing blood tests, and we just completed another one yesterday. I am grateful to everyone who has reached out to me and expressed their affection,” Mustafa said.

Following the revelation, Kenyans rallied to assist the struggling artist financially.

A portion of Kenyans on Twitter claimed they had raised over Ksh55,000 for the artists in less than 12 hours during one fundraising campaign.

GossipA2Z called a number believed to belong to Mustafa’s family, but the call went unanswered.

As a member of the musicians who entertained Kenyans for over a decade, others vowed to reach out to the musician and assist him.

One social media user stated, “He gave us some of the best music of the 2000s; I intend to give something back.”

In a separate interview with the media, the struggling musician denied rumors that he was pursuing influence before the release of his music.

Mustafa asserted that family expenses had drained him, and he was content working on construction sites to survive.

Nonetheless, he reprimanded the individual who leaked the video, insisting he desired a private existence.

“Life is what it is. This is simply the way of life. I’ve been doing this for quite some time, and I never intended for it to reach the general public, but here we are. “Give me some time, and everything will be fine,” he stated.

Kenyans demanded that the administration of President William Ruto re-strategize the arts and culture sector to enable artists to profit from their work.

However, the government has already begun empowering artists, with Ababu Namwamba, the Sports Cabinet Secretary, forming Talanta Hela to develop the necessary policies.

    “It will be the responsibility of the committee to suggest reliable systems for the seamless and accountable collection and distribution of royalties for all creatives;

“Additionally, please propose implementation frameworks for the creatives economy plan,” the notice requested.

Churchill Show host Daniel Ndambuki, Azziad Nasenya, and radio host Jimmi Gathu were Talanta Hela members.

Catherine Kamau (the actress Kate), Rosemary Wahu Kagwi, Esther Akoth, Kizito Makhande, Susan Ekasiba, Awadhi Salim Awadhi, and Douglas Kipkirui Langat were among the other participants.
