Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki disclosed that at least 46 individuals were arrested on Tuesday, May 2 for violence and property destruction during the Azimio protests.

Kindiki confirmed that 14 suspects were apprehended in connection with the robberies, arson, and vandalism in Nairobi.

The suspects were implicated in the arson of a public service vehicle (PSV) on Ngong Road and a trailer on the Southern Bypass, as well as the robbery of a gas station on Juja Road.

“Within the Eastleigh neighborhood, Juja Shell Petrol was attacked and 12 gas cylinders were stolen before fuel pumps and parked vehicles were vandalized,” the CS explained.

Meanwhile, the remaining 32 were apprehended in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and portions of the Nyanza region for vandalism and looting.

“By hurling rocks and other crude projectiles, riotous mobs obstructed the flow of traffic and damaged the windshields of several motor vehicles. Also looted were several private properties, according to the statement.

Kindiki revealed that the atrocities were perpetrated by hordes of criminals. Posing as political protesters in response to opposition leaders’ calls to demonstrate.

He insisted that the police would be deployed throughout the entire county. To combat the increase in crime during mass demonstrations. The CS, therefore, prohibited certain demonstrations.

“There shall be no more violent protests anywhere in Kenya. “Demonstrations and protests of any kind that harm people, security officers, businesses, or property must be prevented at all costs, notice or no notice,” he declared.

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, for his part. Reaffirmed that the police would not tolerate the use of chaos to cause unnecessary fear and panic.

Mohamed Amin, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Launched investigations into all aspects of reported lawbreaking to take appropriate action, according to Koome.

The police chief also commended the law enforcement officers for remaining steadfast and protecting the majority of law-abiding citizens.
