Raila’s Whereabouts Revealed After Motorcade Incident

Tuesday, May 2, Azimio la Umoja leaders did not attend anti-government demonstrations that began in Kawangware, continued through Kangemi-Waruku, and ended in Kiambu County.

Instead, the coalition leaders met at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill, Nairobi, where they discussed a variety of bipartisan talks-related issues.

At the complex, Raila and other Azimio la Umoja leaders held a press conference in which they condemned what the coalition deemed to be unjustified attacks by police officers on civilians.

A portion of a statement read, “We applaud the patriots who rose early to defend their ideals despite unsupervised police brutality.”

On Monday, March 20, 2023, Raila spoke to a portion of the protesters.

Earlier, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party asserted that the procession was a success, noting that the police treated them with respect during the demonstration.

“We had a peaceful procession from Kawangware-Kangemi-Waruku-Westlands-Parklands-Muthaiga-Kiambu Rd, escorted by 15 police land cruisers.”

“Nobody was robbed. No mama mboga was harassed. Everyone was cheering and expressing their exhaustion with the regime, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) tweeted.

Later, Raila responded to the protests and urged the police to respect the protesters’ rights. Claiming that some of his staff had been subjected to the brutal police force.

“The police destroyed our media team’s equipment while firing tear gas at a gas station,” Raila lamented in a May 2 statement.

A contingent of anti-riot police blocked access to the Nairobi Central Business District. At the Fig Tree Hotel, Ngara Road, and Landhies Road.

Raila had promised to lead protesters as early as 6 a.m. But the anti-government rallies appeared to have ended in a huff.

“No one may carry a weapon. Nobody should attempt to interfere with another person’s private affairs, said Raila.

A portion of Azimio MPs was gassed with tear gas while delivering a petition to the Office of the President. Along Nairobi’s Harambee Avenue earlier in the day.

Edwin Sifuna, the general secretary of the ODM. Asserted that President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, were opposed to a peaceful engagement on national issues.

“Gachagua informed us that we know where to locate them. We do. We went there but instead encountered police. Cowards!” Sifuna claimed.
