    Waihiga Mwaura Joins BBC after Leaving Citizen TV

    Waihiga Mwaura, a Citizen TV journalist who has won multiple awards, will be joining the British Broadcasting Corporation after serving for the past 14 years at Royal Media Services.

    Mwaura is currently the Managing Editor, Multimedia, at Royal Media Services.

    On Tuesdays, she hosts Citizen TV’s News Night, which is a primetime political news program that receives a high number of viewers.

    On Tuesday, he provided notice of his departure.
    “My time at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV) has come to an end after 14 incredible years, and I want to thank everyone for their support. The next place I’ll be visiting is @BBCNews, more specifically @BBCAfrica’s Focus on Africa. More information will be forthcoming, but in the meantime, I’ll see you on my final episode of #Newsnight at 9 o’clock,” he wrote on Twitter.

    The renowned journalist began his career at Citizen TV in 2009 as an anchor for the sports bulletin.

    He has since continued to reinvent himself, most recently transitioning to the main bulletin as an anchor for the news program in January 2017.

    Beginning in October 2020, he served as editor for the special projects desk.

    In December 2021, he was promoted to the position of managing editor for the multimedia department.

    During his distinguished career in broadcasting, he has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the BBC Komla Dumor Award in 2018, as well as the CNN MultiChoice Award in 2012.

    Mwaura’s investigative piece on doping in Kenya helped him win the first-ever Mo Amin Award for best investigative piece.

    Last year, SOMA recognized him as one of the Top 25 Men in Digital. For his work in championing the digital transformation journey. For Royal Media Services and introducing innovative products under the Citizen Digital brand. To increase audience reach, optimize user experiences, and increase revenue.

    This recognition was in recognition of his work in both of these areas.

    The journalist lists his career interests as governance, global politics, public policy, international relations, and youth employment.

    He also mentions that he is interested in international relations.
