Angry Residents Storm Mackenzie’s Palatial Home

On Monday, May 1, residents of Kilifi County stormed the mansion and church of controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie.

Minutes after the police and Mackenzie visited the property being treated as a crime scene, locals from the Furunzi neighborhood of Malindi town forced their way into the residence by demolishing a brick perimeter wall.

Residents vandalized the property shortly after 7 p.m. while chanting for justice after police evacuated the pastor from his home.

During this time, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) searched the compound and discovered books and desktop computers that were believed to contain radicalization materials.

As soon as police officers left the scene, the residents who had surrounded the house for the majority of the day stormed the property.

In addition to destroying building structures, they cut down banana and coconut trees.

Before the crowd could cause additional damage, police officers returned to the scene and dispersed it.

Before his arrest on Saturday, April 15, Mackenzie resided in the mansion with his third wife and mother.

In 2019, he shut down the Good News International Church and moved his operations to Shakahola Forest, where he is believed to have radicalized more than 109 followers to starve to death.

On Monday, May 1, the government pathologist Johansen Oduor performed postmortems. On a number of the victims, revealing that a number of them may have been murdered.

“In general, the majority of them exhibited signs of starvation. We observed individuals with empty stomach and a thin layer of fat; however, their liver was fatty, indicating starvation.

The pathologist stated, “Two of them had cyanosis, a bluish discoloration of the fingernails, and by inference, we can confirm that it was due to asphyxiation.”

A few hours earlier, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki disclosed that the possibility of organ harvesting was being considered.

“If our people are missing organs, we will inform the world. We have nothing to conceal.

“We will determine why the organs are missing, who took them, and where they went,” the CS assured Kenyans.
