Raila Directs Supporters to Begin Protests at 6am
The leader of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, Raila Odinga, announced on Monday, May 1, that the massive demonstrations that were planned to take place on Tuesday, May 2, would begin promptly at 6:00 a.m.
During a press conference held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, Raila gave his supporters the instruction to present themselves to the Kenya Kwanza administration without any weapons and hand over their petitions.
He mentioned that the petitions, which would be delivered to the Office of the President and three other locations, would address various issues that have been brought up by the opposition, one of which is the high cost of living.

“We can vouch for the fact that they will be on beginning at 6:00 in the morning tomorrow. As was mentioned earlier, the Constitution guarantees every individual the right to assemble, demonstrate, picket, and present petitions to public authorities in a manner that is nonviolent and does not involve the use of weapons.
“We have assured our participants in tomorrow’s demonstrations that they should maintain a peaceful demeanor. There is a strict ban on anyone carrying a weapon of any kind. Nobody should ever try to meddle in the affairs of another person’s private life. According to what he said, “We are demonstrating to present our petitions to respective authorities.”
Raila went on to criticize the National Police Service (NPS) for its decision to prohibit the demonstrations. Arguing that the head of the Nairobi Police Department, Adamson Bungei. Did not have the authority to issue a directive of this kind.
