CS Kindiki to Oversee Post-Mortem of Exhumed Shakahola Bodies
On Monday morning, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is scheduled to make his way back to Kilifi County so that he can supervise the beginning of post-mortem examinations on the bodies that were exhumed from the Shakahola forest.
It is believed that the victims of a cult led by pastor Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, founder of the Good News International Church, who allegedly lured his faithful into starving themselves to death ‘to find God’ are among the bodies, which have now been recorded at 110 and are still counting.
At the Malindi Subcounty mortuary, the postmortem examinations will be carried out by a group of experts under the direction of Dr. Johansen Oduor, the Chief Pathologist for the Government.
After the exhuming operation, Chakama Ranch, the location of Shakahola Forest, was cordoned off, and a 30-day dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed. This was done in response to the situation that arose as a result of the exhuming operation.

In the time since the police have also detained fourteen members of the cult.
Mackenzie, a former taxi driver who later became a pastor. Was arrested in March on charges related to the deaths of two children who had been left in the care of their parents and is currently being held by the authorities.
Since the upsetting incident, members of the public, religious leaders, and political leaders have given their responses.
Most recently, President William Ruto announced that he will appoint a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Shakahola massacre.
President William Ruto has stated that the commission will be expected to thoroughly investigate the case. And hold accountable anyone who is found to be responsible for the incident.
To root out other people who commit crimes on the same scale as Mackenzie. Influential people in the religious world have advocated for a more in-depth investigation. Into the kinds of doctrines that are being preached in various churches all over the country.
