Uhuru calls Jubilee Party conference amidst wrangles
In May of 2022, the Jubilee party will likely hold a Special National Delegates Conference.
In a notice signed by party leader and former president Uhuru Kenyatta, the party outlined the conference’s agenda as reviewing, formulating, and approving party policies; receiving a status report from the National Executive Committee; and considering and approving any other matters.
The conference will begin at 10 a.m. at the Bomas of Kenya.
After factions from East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). MP Kanini Kega and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni clashed over party leadership. The party was ordered to vacate the premises they currently use as party headquarters earlier this week.
After allegedly being denied entry. A group led by MP Kega was observed throwing rocks and other objects into the building in Kileleshwa on Wednesday.
MP Kega was joined by, among others, Nominated MP Sabina Chege and Eldas MP Adan Keynan.
In a subsequent statement, the owner of the property demanded that the party vacate the premises. Claiming that they had violated the terms of the lease.
“As you are aware, today thugs descended upon Dikdik Gardens as a result of your occupation of my property,” E.W. Mbote wrote.

Kioni and MP Kega are competing for control of the party. With Kioni reportedly refusing to resign as party Secretary-General to make room for MP Kega.
On February 9, the National Executive Council of the Jubilee Party replaced Kioni with Kega. The Registrar of Political Parties authorized the amendments, but the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal voided them.
Kioni, along with Vice Chairman David Murathe and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi, were suspended for their management of the political organization.
The party decided at the NEC meeting that MP Kega would replace Kioni. MP Keynan would replace Murathe, and Raychel Nyamai would serve as acting National Treasurer.
Kioni, on the other hand, has asserted that the meeting was held without the members adhering to the law. Thereby requesting the lifting of his suspension.
MP Keynan urged Kioni to resign peacefully and by the party’s constitution after the standoff.
“We want you to accept that you are the former SG and that this party has a constitution,” he said. “Also, please don’t be a nuisance to the neighbors.”
