KDF Commander Resigns Amid Death Threats

Friday, April 28, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) clarified claims that one of its top commanders resigned in a huff after receiving death.

KDF stated in a statement shared across its social media platforms that the letter claiming that Major General Jeff Nyagah had resigned was false and misleading.

KDF stated that Maj Gen Jeff Mungai Nyagah did not resign, but his term in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) ended after six months of service.

“Be advised that President William Ruto, on the advice of the Defence Council, has today confirmed, among other recommendations, the appointment of Maj Gen Jeff Mungai Nyagah as the General Officer Commanding Western Command (GOC WESTCOM) after a successful 6-month tour as the first Force Commander, East Africa Community Regional Force (FC EACRF) -DRC,” reads a portion of a statement from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

The Forces went on to explain that Nyagah’s replacement was announced immediately after a thorough evaluation of his role in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

“Maj. Gen. Alphaxard Muthuri Kiugu is the newly appointed FC EACRF – DRC to replace Maj. Gen. Jeff Nyagah,” confirmed KDF.

According to the forged letter, Nyagah resigned after unidentified individuals threatened his life.

During their tour of duty in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nyagah and other KDF soldiers reportedly experienced frustrations.

President William Ruto promoted Jeff Nyagah on Friday, April 29, as part of a series of changes that included the appointment of Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

“General Francis Omondi Ogolla succeeds General Robert Kariuki Kibochi, whose 44-year military career ended on a high note,” reads a portion of the statement.

In addition, Ruto promoted Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi to Vice Chief of the Defense Forces.

Before his promotion, Mwangi served as Vice Chancellor of the Kenyan National Defense University. General Said Farah assumed the position of Vice-Chancellor.

Other appointments included the promotion and appointment of Brigadier General David Kipkemboi Keter as Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics.
