Nairobi Man Jailed 2 Months for Sausage Theft from Naivas Supermarket

NAIROBI- A Nairobi court has sentenced a recurrent shoplifter to two months in prison for stealing five packages of beef sausages worth KSh 1,545 from supermarkets in Naivas.

A serial sausage shoplifter from Nairobi admits stealing. Lucas Onyina, the chief magistrate of Milimani, fined 39-year-old Polycarp Wabwire KSh 10,000 after he pleaded guilty to theft charges and accepted a guilty plea.

Wabwire was sentenced after he admitted to selling stolen sausages to a street vendor and expressing regret for his actions.

“Your Honor, I apologize to the Naivas Supermarket and pledge never to do so again. I am also asthmatic, pleaded Wabwire.

CCTV footage captured Wabwire confidently reaping where he had not sown, prompting his arrest by a supermarket employee with keen eyes.

After the convict stuffed the sausages from the shelves into the front pockets of his pants, the clerk realized something was amiss.

CCTV captures a Nairobi man stealing sausage from Naivas. According to police records, Wabwire entered the Muindi Mbingu Naivas branch and proceeded directly to the food section, where he selected the sausages, placed them in his pockets, and confidently walked out past the checkout counter as if he had not stolen anything.

The security personnel of the supermarket then arrested him and transported him to Central Police Station.

According to police records, the suspect stole four times from the supermarket in April 2022 and this year.

Handling stolen sausages

The prosecution informed the court that Wabwire was a repeat shoplifter who had received multiple warnings from the supermarket.

According to the indictment, Wabwire was accused of stealing five packages of choice MEAT MEATY BEEF. Valued at a total of KSh 1,545 on April 21, 2023, from the Muindi Mbingu branch. Of the Naivas supermarket in Nairobi, Nairobi County.

In addition, he faced a second count and an alternative charge of possession of stolen property.

On the same date, he was accused of dishonestly keeping five packages of Choice Meat Meaty beef sausages. Because he had reason to believe they were stolen property.
