Kenyan Evacuees from Sudan War Return Home
Monday evening, the first group of Kenyan refugees from war-torn Sudan arrived in the country aboard a military plane.
There were 39 students in the group, including 19 Kenyans, 19 Somalis, and one Saudi Arabian.
At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale greeted them.
Duale stated that the students traveled by road to South Sudan. Where they boarded a military aircraft, and that additional Kenyans were slated to be airlifted.
“I commended the youth for their bravery and determination in the face of the ongoing bloodbath,” he said in a tweet. “I also encouraged Kenyans stranded in Sudan and their families back home to continue registering with the State Department of Diaspora Affairs for logistical purposes.”

Their arrival occurred mere hours before the announcement by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that the warring Sudanese factions had agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire.
According to Blinken, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) concluded 48 hours of intense negotiations.
The ceasefire would begin on April 24 at midnight.
RSF stated in a statement that it had agreed to the ceasefire “to open humanitarian corridors, facilitate the movement of citizens and residents, enable them to fulfill their needs, reach hospitals and safe areas, and evacuate diplomatic missions.”
Since April 15, forces loyal to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan have conflicted with those of his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the RSF.
AFP reported Monday that UN agencies had confirmed 427 deaths and over 3,700 injuries.
