Mackenzie’s Media Brainwashing & Tanzania Obsession

Many Kenyans and the rest of the world find it difficult to comprehend how Paul Mackenzie was able to recruit Kenyans into his murderous cult based in Kilifi County’s Shakahola Forest.

Reports indicate that some of the most intelligent individuals in the country left their careers to join Mackenzie’s church.

Once they joined, they were brainwashed into agreeing to starve to death in exchange for Jesus Christ’s welcome at the pearly gates of heaven.

Kenyans.co.ke endured years of Mackenzie’s lectures to understand the strategy he employed to brainwash his supporters.

Through the videos of his sermons, most of which are available on YouTube, it was clear that the pastor, whom President William Ruto compared to a terrorist, relied heavily on Kenyan and international media to intimidate his followers into submission.

Over the years, he also developed an obsession with Tanzanian events and their leaders.

It may have been difficult for his followers to independently verify the information, so he may have relied heavily on materials from Tanzania.

Mackenzie had a Tanzanian faithful by the name of Mama Shinari to whom he passed his alleged prophecies.

Mama Shinari would describe a dream, and Mackenzie would claim that a recent occurrence in the country was a revelation of the dream.

For instance, in 2020, Mama Shinari testified at Mackenzie’s church that the pastor had given her a dream about a tsunami engulfing Kenya.

Mackenzie would then replay clips of pandemic infections in the country and assert that he had predicted the events and that this was the tsunami that Mama Shinari was referring to.

Unexpectedly, all of Mackenzie’s prophecies that Kenyans.co.ke sampled foretold past events.

Mackenzie used media clips of tragic events to terrify his followers about the end of the world.

In 2020, he predicted the end of the world due to Covid-19, describing it as God’s anger toward humanity.

Mackenzie commended Tanzania under the late President Magufuli for its lax approach to combating the pandemic.

When Mackenzie saw that Kenya was winning the war against the pandemic, he announced that the world would not be destroyed by the pandemic but by locusts.

Again, the Kenyan government successfully dealt with the locust invasion, and Mackenzie changed his prophecy once more, revealing that he had a vision that the cost of living would destroy the nation.

He played a clip of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu criticizing the high cost of living as a sign of the end of the world.

“This is only the beginning. As he looped Samia’s video, he frightened his followers by predicting that they would soon hear about the collapse of superpower countries.

Mackenzie also replayed Kenyan media clips reporting that Ruto’s government would launch a Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) for newborns to support his claims that the end of the world was near.

“There is no unique number in the world except for the biblical mark of the beast,” he told his followers. Urging them to fast unto death and meet Jesus before the government implemented the UPI.

On Monday, April 24, 2023, the total number of bodies exhumed from Shakahola Forest graves surpassed 58.
