Kilifi Cult Probe Intensifies as 112 Reported Missing in Shakahola Massacre
As the investigation into a macabre cult in Shakahola, Kilifi continues, there have been reports of the disappearance of one hundred and twelve people.
The Kenya Red Cross tweeted early Monday morning that it had set up tracing and counseling desks. At the Malindi Sub-County Hospital in response to the Shakahola outbreak.
As the operation to exhume more mass graves in what is now commonly known as the Shakahola massacre entered its fourth day, the tracing desk had received reports of 112 people going missing.
Exhumations continued on Sunday, April 23, and resulted in the discovery of 18 additional bodies buried in shallow graves.

This brings the total number of bodies discovered through exhumations to 39.
Pastor Paul Mackenzie, a controversial preacher who reportedly indoctrinated his followers. Some of whom dropped out of school. While others left their jobs to follow a religious mirage, is at the center of the massacre.
Members of a group that is now being referred to as a religious cult were instructed to starve themselves to death. They were given the assurance that they would eventually meet Jesus.
It is believed that hundreds of people who followed the controversial pastor from various parts of the country had left their homes. Some of them had sold their property before traveling to Malindi to participate in the killer fast.
The number of people who are still alive is unknown. Investigators have not yet dug up any of the more than 50 graves that were discovered on Sunday.
