Gachagua Criticizes Kenyattas over Mau Mau Neglect and Land Troubles
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua appears to have blamed the Kenyatta family for the treatment of freedom fighters since the country’s independence in 1963.
Speaking to residents of Iruri village in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County, on Friday, the DP accused unnamed individuals of amassing vast tracts of land without donating any to former freedom fighters.
“Yesterday, I was overjoyed to hear that someone is considering how to aid the Mau Mau. Even if they have not helped them since 1963 and have never made the effort, it is not too late. Mr. Gachagua stated that the Mau Mau and their descendants are suffering.

They should return at least half of the Mau Mau-appropriated land parcels. Over the years, vast tracts of land have remained idle, but the Mau Mau and their children are buried in public cemeteries.”
The DP did not name the individuals he was accusing, but he appeared to be responding to Thursday’s statement by former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta that brilliant Kenyans who fought for the country’s independence had been neglected.
Thursday, while hosting Field Marshall Mary Muthoni at her home in Muthaiga, Mama Ngina lamented the abandonment of former freedom fighters.
“Observe her. She is a true freedom fighter, as opposed to the others. “They went there and accomplished a great deal for this nation,” Mama Ngina said. “I implore you to continue establishing peace in this country, knowing full well that we brought it from afar.”
Mr. Gachagua stated, “I can connect them with the Mau Mau if they desire my services.” Sixty years have passed, and we are still waiting. They should significantly aid the Mau Mau.”
