Gachagua speaks out on Raila’s ICC threat

The DP believes that Azimio does not comprehend how the ICC operates.
Vice President Rigathi Gachagua responded to Raila Odinga’s threat to bring him before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

On Wednesday, Gachagua dismissed the threats by asserting that they will have no effect.

The DP stated that he was unaware that, according to Raila, defending his boss constitutes a crime against humanity.

“Azimio is threatening to report me at the Hague, I don’t know how defending your boss can be a crime against humanity. They have been in the streets for many years they don’t even think well. How can defending your boss and his programs become a crime to be reported at the Hague,” he said.

However, according to the DP, if Azimio sends a letter to ICC, it will be returned to the sender.

Gachagua opines that Azimio does not appear to comprehend how the ICC operates, expressing their frustration.

“Any problem they have with anyone, the International Criminal Court is the solution,” he said. “Please defend your bosses.”

His remarks come days after Raila said he would take Gachagua to the International Criminal Court for an alleged assassination attempt.

During the March 27 and 30 demonstrations, Raila claimed that Gachagua dispatched police officers who fired eleven shots at his vehicle.

“Gachagua is an accused person, and in the upcoming week, we will submit his name to the International Criminal Court,” Raila said. “He said he wanted to kill me once and for all.”

On April 14, Azimio wrote to the International Criminal Court (ICC) requesting that the court investigate Kenya’s political situation.

In a letter to the Court based in the Netherlands, Attorney Paul Mwangi listed nine issues, including attacks on protesters.

It was submitted by Article 25 of the Office of the Prosecutor’s Regulation.
