A mother recalls her final exchange with her late daughter.
A mother has painfully recalled the final moments she spent with her daughter, one of the Mukumu Girls students who died as a result of food poisoning.
Joyce, who lost her daughter Wendy, recounted on Citizen TV how she was instructed to pick up her daughter on Tuesday because she was ill.
“I’ve lost a daughter, I’ve lost a friend I’ve lost my mentor, I’ve lost all,” she addressed the media.
A government report attributed illness at Mukumu Girls and Butere Boys High Schools to E. coli and salmonella typhi.
The Mukumu Girls High School parent said her daughter was recovering well the last time she spoke with her.
Last Tuesday, the Mukumu Girls Deputy Principal told me to pick up my daughter the following day.

Wednesday, Joyce picked up her daughter.
“So that’s what we did we took her to the hospital she was told that she has bacterial infection”
Wendy was given medication and permitted to return home; she began her drug regimen on Thursday.
“She took her medicine well and I communicated with her throughout the day because she was with her elder sister in Bungoma,”.
Joyce, the mother, received the tragic news that her daughter had died the following Friday.
“I received a call that my daughter is not feeling well. So I rushed there but before I reached there I got another piece of information that she had passed on.”
They had spoken on the telephone before Wendy’s passing.
“We talked over the phone on Thursday night she told me she is fine and is feeling weak but she was good we just talked, and then in the morning she just collapsed and…just died”
Joyce has eulogized Wendy as a beautiful, well-liked girl.
Mukumu Girls closed on April 3 after the incident that killed three students and hospitalized several others.
The government linked the disease outbreak at the school to the institution’s water contamination last week.
