DCI Forensic Experts Identify 2 Suspects in Utalii College Student Murder Case

Two Utalii College student murder suspects were arrested by the DCI on Saturday, April 15.

On February 5, 2023, Job Chihonyi, age 25, was reportedly murdered along Thika Road, mere meters from his campus.

The suspects were apprehended by Starehe-based detectives and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau agents after a thorough examination of forensic evidence and the crime scene.

DCI statement: “Maxwell Omukuba Shisika and Kevin Ngechu Wanjiru, both 21 years old, were arrested after a meticulous forensic investigation placed them at the crime scene during the commission of the heinous act.”

The knife-wielding gang was accused of confronting the suspect on his way to college and demanding his valuables.

“Only a few meters from Utalii College, they robbed him of his cellphone before stabbing him in the chest, leaving him on the ground and fleeing on a motorcycle,” according to the DCI.

Detectives said Chihonyi was declared dead at Guru Nanak Hospital despite well-wishers’ efforts.

The DCI detectives then collected the evidence, which was analyzed in the crime lab to identify the suspects.

Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau meticulously connected the missing links to place the suspects at the crime scene.

The forensic investigations led the police to Kariobangi North, where the two suspects were located and apprehended.

The police officers matched the identities of the suspects to the evidence collected at the crime scene.

DCI stated, “A knife believed to have been used to commit the murder was recovered from Maxwell Omukuba and stored pending forensic analysis.”

Detectives also found a mobile phone and a black motorcycle used to escape.

The DCI confirmed that the two suspects are in custody awaiting murder arraignment under Penal Code sections 203 and 204.
