Leaked documents reveal Russian fighter jet attempted to shoot down RAF plane in “Act of War”
According to leaked spy documents, a malfunctioning missile saved a British spy plane from the Russians.
One of Vladimir Putin’s pilots locked onto the RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint, which has a crew of up to 30 people, narrowly averting an act of war.
According to the classified US intelligence report, the Russian jet was flying above the Black Sea when its pilot believed he had the authorization to fire.
Ben Wallace, then-Defense Secretary, attributed the missile launch to a “technical malfunction” with the Su-27 fighter when he revealed some details of the incident the year prior.
The seriousness of the encounter, however, has become apparent as new details have trickled out via Twitter and Telegram leaks.
The documents show that US defense officials say the Russian pilot misunderstood a radar operator on the ground, according to the New York Times.
He believed he had permission to fire, locked onto the spy plane, and launched a missile on September 29.
Thankfully, the missile malfunctioned, preventing a potentially catastrophic incident.
One of the officials briefed on the encounter described what transpired as “extremely, extremely frightening.”
According to the Defence Secretary, two Su-27 fighter jets followed the unarmed RAF Rivet Joint on routine patrol in international airspace in September.
During 90-minute engagement off Ukraine’s coast, one of the Su-27s fired a missile near the RAF aircraft, Mr. Wallace said.

The Washington Post reported over the weekend that classified documents described the incident as a “near-shoot down of UK RJ” – the name of the fighter jet.
However, the Ministry of Defense has vehemently denied the account of the incident detailed in the documents.
An official from the Department of Defense stated, “A significant portion of the content of these reports is false, manipulated, or both.”
“We strongly discourage anyone from accepting these claims at face value and would also advise them to investigate the source and intent of such leaks.”
The RAF RC-135W is nicknamed the “nuke sniffer” for its ability to detect radiation in addition to enemy signals.
Britain uses the four-engine jets to conduct electronic surveillance on enemy targets by monitoring radar and other system signals.

US European Command reported that a Russian Su-27 jet hit the MQ-9 Reaper drone’s propeller, causing it to crash-land in the ocean and be lost.
Before the 7 a.m. local time collision, two Su-27s “dumped fuel on and flew in front of the MQ-9” in a “reckless” and “unprofessional” manner.
