Man Pretending to Be Ruto’s Aide PA Arrested

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a well-known Nairobi fraudster accused of conning a job seeker out of Ksh130,000 by pretending he could secure her a government job.

According to investigators, the scam began in February 2024 when a Kenyan woman working in Lebanon contacted the suspect through his TikTok account. She was looking for a government job back home once her contract in Lebanon ended. The man introduced himself as the personal assistant to the Head of Public Service in Kenya.

The suspect then gave the woman his phone number and pretended to have strong links with the Public Service Commission (PSC). To build trust, he even shared a fake document that looked like it was from the PSC, making the job offer appear real.

After gaining her confidence, the fraudster started asking for “facilitation fees.” The woman, with her employer’s help, sent him Ksh130,000 via Western Union. Despite the payment, no job materialized. Realizing she had been conned, she reported the matter to the DCI.

Detectives launched a manhunt and arrested the suspect on Thursday, August 21, 2025. He is currently in custody as police process the case before taking him to court.

This latest case comes just weeks after another major fraud incident in Eldoret, where detectives arrested two men accused of running a fake recruitment agency. The pair allegedly tricked more than 100 young people with false promises of jobs abroad.

The suspects were nabbed on July 23, 2025, while collecting money from victims at Silver Line back street in Eldoret town. They were taken to Eldoret Central Police Station, where over 100 youths later gathered, demanding refunds of the Ksh2,400 each had paid as registration fees.
