Gachagua Breaks Silence in Social Media Post after Skipping Anticipated Kamukunji Rally

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally spoken after his dramatic return to Kenya on Thursday. Instead of addressing supporters at a public rally, he chose a short social media post to reach Kenyans.

After landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from his 42-day tour of the United States, Gachagua thanked his followers for standing by him.

โ€œThank you, my great people of Kenya, for the love. I am happy to be back home,โ€ he wrote.

Many had expected him to speak at Kamkunji grounds, but his convoy never got there. Instead, his alliesโ€”led by Nyandarua Senator John Methuโ€”took to the stage. Methu directly warned President William Ruto over rising political tensions.

He accused the government of sponsoring violence against Gachaguaโ€™s supporters after youths hurled stones at his convoy along Mombasa Road.

โ€œWe made you the President. We can equally make you an ordinary citizen,โ€ Methu declared.

โ€œIf you are man enough, do not send goons to stone us and police to teargas us. Come face us directly.โ€

Methu further promised that the Mt Kenya region would not be intimidated into silence.

โ€œWhether you like it or not, we will hold these public meetings. You will go home. You have tested our resolve and resilience, but we are unbwogable and unbowed. We shall fight on until we deliver this country,โ€ he said.

Crowds had earlier gathered in excitement as Gachagua arrived, waving placards and chanting in support of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), which he leads. Some even tried to break through security to see him.

The National Police Service had deployed water cannons, anti-riot officers, and helicopters to secure JKIA and key Nairobi roads.

Gachaguaโ€™s return also comes amid heated debate over remarks he made during his American visit. He accused President Rutoโ€™s government of secretly dealing with terror groups, funding Sudanโ€™s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and holding talks with Al-Shabaab intermediaries in Mandera.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed the claims as โ€œreckless and damaging,โ€ urging Gachagua to provide evidence to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Gachagua has stood by his remarks, describing the US trip as โ€œsuccessful and fulfilling,โ€ highlighting meetings with the Kenyan diaspora. On August 11, he announced he was ending the visit early to concentrate on the upcoming November by-elections.
