Drone Blast Kills 2 Police Officers in Haiti
Two elite SWAT officers working in Haiti under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) were killed on Tuesday evening after a deadly explosion triggered by a kamikaze drone.
The blast happened at a SWAT base in the Kenscoff region, leaving two more officers wounded. According to the Haitian National Police (PNH), the drone was being carried by civilians when it went off. Authorities are currently treating it as an accident, but investigations are ongoing.
The U.S. Embassy in Haiti mourned the loss, praising the fallen officers for their courage in fighting gangs and improving security in the country. “Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the Embassy said, adding that the U.S. will continue to support the Haitian National Police and its SWAT units in the fight against gangs and terrorist groups destabilizing Haiti.
U.S. Charge d’Affaires Eric Wooster and embassy officials sent condolences to the officers’ families, colleagues, and friends, highlighting their bravery and dedication. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau also confirmed that she had spoken directly with Haitian Prime Minister Fils-Aimé, assuring continued American support for Haiti’s security efforts.

Kenyan Officers Previously Killed in Haiti
The deaths come months after Kenyan police officers serving in the MSS mission also lost their lives during separate operations.
On February 23, a Kenyan officer died after suffering serious injuries in Ségur-Savien, Artibonite. He was airlifted to Aspen Hospital but later succumbed to his wounds.
On March 25, another Kenyan officer was shot dead during a confrontation with armed gangs in Lower Artibonite, about 92 km north of Port-au-Prince.
On April 20, three Haitian soldiers also died after being ambushed by gangs while conducting a joint patrol with Kenyan and Haitian security teams.
These incidents highlight the dangerous conditions facing international and local security forces in Haiti, where gangs continue to launch violent attacks against both civilians and security personnel.
