Kingi Fires Back at Ruto Over Alleged Ksh 150M Senate Bribes
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has finally spoken out after President William Ruto claimed that some senators pocketed up to Ksh150 million in bribes to sway parliamentary decisions.
Speaking during a Senate sitting on Wednesday, August 20, Kingi dismissed the allegations, saying he had not received any complaint, report, or evidence linking senators to bribery, extortion, or corruption.
“As Speaker of the Senate, I have not received any complaint or information on bribery or corrupt practices from the executive, ministries, government agencies, governors, or counties. If I do receive such a complaint, I am duty-bound to take immediate and firm action,” Kingi stated.
Kingi’s remarks come just days after President Ruto told a joint meeting of Kenya Kwanza and ODM MPs in Karen, Nairobi, that intelligence reports showed lawmakers from both Houses were being bribed to influence key decisions, including impeachment cases.

“The latest Soko Huru in the Senate—where does someone get Ksh150 million? That’s county money, not personal cash,” President Ruto alleged.
Addressing the impeachment issue, Kingi stressed that the Senate has always handled such cases openly and within the law, basing its rulings strictly on evidence presented.
The Speaker also invited anyone with proof of bribery to table it before the House for proper investigation. His stand mirrors that of several senators who have demanded President Ruto back up his claims with credible evidence such as reports, intelligence briefs, or testimonies.
The lawmakers warned that the President’s statements were damaging the Senate’s reputation and casting doubt on its ability to discharge its constitutional role.
