Moses Kuria Hits Out at UDA & ODM After State House Meeting
Former President William Ruto’s senior advisor, Moses Kuria, has strongly criticised the new broad-based government, accusing it of using outdated political tricks instead of solving the real problems facing Kenyans.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, Kuria said Kenya’s political system is deeply broken, yet leaders keep offering temporary solutions instead of long-term fixes.
He took aim at both the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying they are dragging their feet in implementing the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
Kuria revealed that he had expected the NADCO process to prepare the ground for a referendum in the 2027 General Election, but he now believes that is unlikely to happen.
While stressing the importance of NADCO, Kuria said its implementation is the only way to address Kenya’s deep-rooted political challenges.

“I had hoped NADCO would end with a referendum, probably as the 7th ballot in 2027,” Kuria said. “But instead, we keep treating Kenya’s political crisis like a cancer managed with painkillers — handshakes, broad-based governments and endless side deals.”
He further warned that the NADCO report could collapse just like the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) if leaders fail to act decisively.
The former Public Service CS also criticised Monday’s joint parliamentary meeting between ODM and UDA at State House, saying other parties in both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza were sidelined.
“Unfortunately, what we saw was a national moment reduced to a dowry being paid by UDA to ODM. Even the other parties in Azimio and Kenya Kwanza were not consulted,” Kuria said.
His remarks came only hours after the high-profile State House meeting on Monday, August 18, which brought together President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and ODM leader Raila Odinga. The meeting was meant to promote unity between the rival sides.
