ODM-Ruto War Explodes: “Quit if You Can’t Shut Up!” – UDA MP Blasts Raila’s Allies as Power Deal Teeters
Fresh tensions are brewing within Kenya’s broad-based government as allies of President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga clash over their roles in the current administration.
Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda, elected on a UDA ticket, has openly challenged ODM lawmakers, urging them to leave government if they plan to act like the opposition from within. Jhanda said it was hypocritical for ODM members to criticize the same administration they are part of.
His comments came after Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo stated that the ODM party will continue to speak out against police brutality while remaining in government. Millie, elected under ODM, insisted they have no plans to leave the power-sharing arrangement but will still fight for justice and the rights of Kenyans.
This position angered Jhanda, who argued that ODM cannot play both sides. He called on Raila’s allies and ODM-affiliated Cabinet Secretaries to step down and return to full opposition duties.
“ODM should stop lecturing us on how to govern or handle human rights. They’ve never won any election. If they’re unhappy, they should leave. Ask your ministers to resign if you want to be taken seriously. Otherwise, respect President William Ruto,” Jhanda said.

Ruto and Raila entered a cooperation deal in March last year to work on key national issues. The agreement focused on ending abductions and extrajudicial killings, helping victims of police brutality, cutting the cost of living, and boosting devolution.
However, despite this deal, ODM leaders have continued to criticize the government, especially over the handling of protests and police violence.
Raila recently clashed with Ruto over the president’s controversial “shoot to injure” order. Ruto had told police to shoot troublemakers in the leg during chaotic protests, claiming criminals were hiding among peaceful demonstrators.
Raila strongly opposed the directive, saying it violated the rule of law and encouraged police brutality. He urged the government to follow legal procedures and avoid giving police unchecked powers, even when dealing with suspects. The ODM leader said offenders should be arrested and tried in court, not harmed in the streets.
