Gachagua Addresses Holding Talks With Ruto
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made it clear that he wonโt hold any talks with President William Ruto, even after Raila Odinga called for a national dialogue to address Kenyaโs growing crisis.
Speaking during his U.S. tour on Saturday, July 12, Gachagua dismissed any possibility of dialogue, claiming that Ruto is a serial liar. He even joked that Ruto lies so much that some people are starting to question if his real name is actually William Ruto.
โYou canโt have dialogue with Rutoโhe lies all the time. In fact, weโre not even sure thatโs his real name,โ Gachagua said.
He went on to say that he had no interest in any talks with the president, and neither did Martha Karua, whom he referred to as โmy sister.โ
This came shortly after Raila Odinga, on the 35th anniversary of the Saba Saba protests (July 7), called for a national summit to address Kenyaโs economic and political challenges. According to Raila, the same issues that triggered protests in the 1990sโsuch as joblessness, poverty, and human rights abusesโare still affecting the country today.

Raila urged leaders and citizens to come together for open discussions that could lead to positive change and economic reforms.
But Gachagua wasnโt buying it. He dismissed Railaโs idea, accusing the former Prime Minister of playing both sidesโcalling for reform while benefiting from being close to the government.
โEvery time thereโs an election, Raila loses, then finds his way into power. He wants to enjoy the benefits but avoid the responsibility,โ Gachagua said.
โNow that things are getting tough, heโs trying to pretend heโs not part of the system. If he really cared about Kenya, heโd cut ties with Ruto. But instead, heโs talking while still benefiting.โ
Gachagua is currently on a two-month tour in the United States, meeting with Kenyans in the diaspora and building support as the 2027 presidential race begins to take shape.
