President Ruto Reshuffles Top Military Leaders in Kenya Army and Air Force
President William Ruto has made key changes in Kenyaโs military leadership, affecting both the Kenya Army and the Kenya Air Force.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence on Friday, June 27, Major General David Kipkemboi Ketter has been promoted to Lieutenant General and named the new Commander of the Kenya Army. He takes over from Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Chemwaina Tarus, who has now been assigned to serve as the Vice Chancellor of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K).
Before this new role, Ketter served as the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces, handling Personnel and Logistics.

President Ruto also appointed Major General Benard Waliaula as the new Commander of the Kenya Air Force. He replaces Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed, who retired after 42 years of dedicated service. Before this promotion, Waliaula was the Director of Defence National Security Industries.
In related appointments, Brigadier Joel Muriungi M’arimi was promoted to Major General and appointed as the Commandant of the Kenya Military Academy. Prior to this, he served as both the Commandant of the Academy and the Commander of the Armoured Brigade.
Additionally, Brigadier Joyce Chelangโat Sitienei has been elevated to the rank of Major General and named Deputy Vice Chancellor at the Centre for Strategic and Security Studies under the National Defence University-Kenya. Before this, she worked as the Director of the International Peace Support Centre.
