Unity for Progress: Raila Offers Land for Affordable Homes in Kisumu
ODM party leader Raila Odinga has donated five acres of land to the government to boost the Affordable Housing project in Kisumu.
President William Ruto shared the news during his tour of Kisumu on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He spoke about the donation while preparing to officially open several new housing units in the city.
Ruto explained that Raila gave the land to help build homes for low-income families in Kisumu.
โIโm here with Raila, who has generously given five acres of his personal land so that affordable houses can be built for the people of Kisumu,โ said the President.
President Ruto praised Raila for his support of the governmentโs key housing program.
Raila, in turn, urged Kisumu residents to support Rutoโs government, saying that the region has much to gain from upcoming development projects.
During his visit, Ruto will officially launch Phase One of the LAPFUND Makasembo Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu.
The Presidentโs trip is part of his three-day tour of the Nyanza region ahead of this yearโs Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay County. During the visit, he will also hand over keys to 910 new housing units.
The governmentโs Affordable Housing initiative aims to build 200,000 homes each year, with a goal of delivering 1 million houses within five years.

Kenyans are encouraged to register on Boma Yangu, save consistently, and follow updates to boost their chances of getting a home when new units are released.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura added that those who have saved for a longer period and those with larger families will get priority when homes are allocated.
