Car Linked to Alleged Abduction of Juja MP Found as Police Probe Political Drama
A private car believed to have been used in the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi was found on Tuesday in Juja Township. The car’s owner, said to be a close friend of the MP, was also arrested.
Reports claim that the arrested man worked as an agent for the UDA party during the 2022 elections in Juja Constituency.
Detectives investigating the incident said they are now searching for a bodaboda (motorbike taxi) that was allegedly used to transport the MP from a local house to a coffee plantation where he was found on Monday morning.
According to Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the arrest marks significant progress in the investigation.
“He owns the Subaru Forester believed to have blocked Koimburi’s vehicle before the MP was reportedly taken,” Nyaga said.
Koimburi was allegedly abducted on Sunday outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County. He was later found on Monday, abandoned in a nearby coffee farm.
However, police now say the entire abduction may have been faked for political reasons.
The MP is currently admitted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi. While he has been receiving visitors, he has refused to speak with detectives handling the case.
Investigators are digging deeper into the motive behind the incident.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja called the incident “political drama.” He said there’s no proof that Koimburi was kidnapped where he was found, despite a video circulating online.
“Officers visited the location and examined the area carefully. After comparing it with the video, it was clear that the road and vegetation did not match,” said Kanja.
He also shared that Moses Kariuki, caretaker of the coffee plantation owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, said he didn’t witness any strange events.
The Inspector General questioned how Koimburi’s team knew exactly where he was. He added that the MP was taken to hospital in his own car, driven by Frida Njeri, who was also the first person to find him.
Opposition leaders, including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, visited Koimburi in the hospital and dismissed claims that the MP faked his abduction.
“Those claiming that Hon. Koimburi staged this are spreading lies,” Kalonzo said.
Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi added, “That explanation makes no sense. Abductions must not be taken lightly.”

On Tuesday, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula called for a full investigation into the incident. He raised concerns about the safety of MPs and the growing number of security threats across the country.
Speaking in Parliament, Wetang’ula said Koimburi was found alive in a coffee plantation after going missing on Sunday. He instructed the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security to work with the Inspector General and other security officials to uncover the truth.
He also mentioned that Karen Hospital had blocked all visitors—including officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)—from seeing the MP, following instructions from Koimburi’s family. This has added to the confusion and mystery surrounding the case.
“The hospital isn’t allowing even DCI officers inside, which raises more questions,” Wetang’ula noted.
He directed the parliamentary Security Committee to visit Koimburi and update Parliament on his condition.
Still, the Speaker urged MPs not to view this case alone, linking it to a worrying trend of violence against elected officials, including the recent fatal shooting of Kabondo Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were.
“These events show the need for thorough investigations. We need answers—not just for us in Parliament, but for all Kenyans,” Wetang’ula said.
He also reminded MPs and the public to stay alert and take their personal safety seriously.
“Always be aware of your surroundings and who you associate with. Stay safe,” he warned.
