Geoffrey Ruku Declares Ksh.377 Million Net Worth During Cabinet Vetting

Public Service CS Nominee Vows to Fight Corruption, Promote Equality, and Create Jobs

    Nairobi, Kenya โ€“ April 14, 2025

Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Geoffrey Ruku has revealed his net worth is Ksh.377 million. Ruku made the announcement on Monday while being vetted by Members of Parliament at the Parliament buildings in Nairobi.

    Ruku Promises Fairness and Transparency

During the vetting, Ruku told MPs that, if approved, he will fight for fairness and transparency in the public service sector. He promised to represent all communities in Kenya, making sure no one is left behind.

โ€œI will serve without fear or favour,โ€ Ruku said. โ€œI want to solve unemployment problems and create job opportunities without nepotism.โ€

Plans to Support Minority Groups and End Corruption

Ruku also said he will stand up for minority groups, including people living with disabilities. He added that corruption in public service must stop.

To fix the problem of ghost workers, Ruku plans to introduce a digital system that will help track and verify all public servants.

Known for Controversial Bill on Protests

Geoffrey Ruku, who is the Member of Parliament for Mbeere North, is best known for sponsoring the Assembly and Demonstration Bill, 2024. The bill aimed to control how protests are held and set safety rules for demonstrators and the public.

Although he later withdrew the bill after public backlash, Ruku defended it during his vetting. He said the bill was designed to protect lives and property during demonstrations.

โ€œNo life should be lost because of demonstrations; no property should be destroyed,โ€ he told lawmakers.

Rukuโ€™s Political Background and Cabinet Nomination

Ruku is a strong supporter of President William Ruto. He was nominated to the Cabinet on March 26, 2025, replacing Justin Muturi as Public Service CS.

Muturi reportedly had disagreements with President Ruto over alleged abductions and killings of youth during anti-government protests. His son was among those affected. Due to these tensions, Muturi stopped attending Cabinet meetings before his dismissal.
