Let Ruto complete his second term; after that, who will continue from there? Who? You said that in 2027, Ruto should complete his ten years. It’s ten years without a break. Once we finish that, let us go to Kithure Kindiki.”
He further highlighted the debt of gratitude owed by the Kikuyu and Mt Kenya West communities to the people of Mt Kenya East, including Tharaka Nithi, for their historical support of past presidents. Ichung’wah proposed that this support be reciprocated by backing Kindiki for president in 2032 after Ruto’s tenure.

“We, as the Kikuyu, don’t get upset by how you give us your votes in Mt Kenya West. Uhuru Kenyatta, didn’t he serve his ten years? Mwai Kibaki also served his ten years, and even Jomo Kenyatta did too. We too will return this favor when Ruto completes his ten years; we will give Kindiki the presidency as a way of showing our appreciation,” Ichung’wah said.

Ichung’wah also reflected on Tharaka Nithi’s political journey. In 2022, the region was concerned about its future, but the appointment of Kindiki as Deputy President alleviated much of this anxiety. Ichung’wah praised Kindiki for his character, patience, and ability to unite people, qualities that earned him the trust of President Ruto.
“I remember at the end of May 2022, we were here in Kathwana, and I saw the tears of the people of Tharaka Nithi as they cried for Kindiki. But today, there are no tears because Kindiki is now the Deputy President, thanks to his noble character,” Ichung’wah reflected.

However, Ichung’wah’s visit was not without controversy. The previous day, during a public event in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, he faced loud opposition from the crowd. When President Ruto handed him the microphone during the launch of the last-mile electricity project, the audience responded with boos, making it clear that they were not interested in his speech.
Despite his attempts to calm the crowd by promising job opportunities for local youth in the affordable housing project, the protests grew louder. In response, Ichung’wah declared that he would not be intimidated by the crowd’s hostility. “Calm down; I am not someone who gets shouted down,” he said, adding that neither he nor any leader from Nyandarua would be silenced.
