TERROR IN RONGAI! Ferocious Lioness Caught on CCTV Hunting at Night in Residential Area — Residents Fear for Their Lives

Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County – Panic has gripped residents of Ongata Rongai after a CCTV video showing a lioness roaming in a residential area surfaced online. The footage, which has now gone viral, has raised concerns about the safety of people living in the area.

In the video, which was shared widely on social media and obtained by Gossipa2z.com, the lioness is seen calmly walking toward a gated compound during the night. The wild animal is then seen climbing the concrete wall next to the gate, clearly unfazed by the bright security lights installed at the entrance. The lioness pauses at the top of the wall, staring into the compound as if searching for prey.

The video was captured on Friday, March 28, 2025, and quickly spread across social media platforms. Many Kenyans reacted with fear, wondering how a dangerous wild animal could be walking so close to human homes. Others suggested that the lioness may have strayed from a nearby wildlife territory, as Ongata Rongai borders Nairobi National Park and other natural habitats.

Residents Express Fear and Call for KWS Action

After the video went viral, many people from Ongata Rongai and other parts of Kajiado County raised alarm over the increasing number of wild animals being seen near homes. Some residents said they are now afraid to move around at night, while others fear for the safety of their children and pets.

Local leaders and concerned citizens have urged the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to act quickly and capture the lioness before it harms anyone. Many are asking KWS to increase patrols in the area and prevent future cases of wild animals entering residential spaces.

“We are living in fear. We cannot even walk outside after dark. KWS needs to take this seriously and protect us,” said one resident.

    Similar Incidents in the Past

This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Ongata Rongai. In recent years, there have been many cases of lions, hyenas, and other wild animals being spotted in public places within Nairobi County and Kajiado County.

In January 2025, KWS officers captured another lioness that had been spotted several times in Ongata Rongai. It took months of tracking before the wildlife rangers were able to catch the lioness safely. According to KWS, the lioness was injured when they found her, possibly after clashing with local residents.

The officers also revealed that the lioness was believed to be the mother of two young lions that were caught last year after escaping from their natural habitat.

In a public statement, KWS said: “Yesterday, a lioness was captured in Sorora Drive, Rimpa, Kajiado North, by our Problem Animal Control (PAC) team. Confirmed by her unique ear notch, she is believed to be the mother of two lions captured earlier in the same area.”

Why Are Lions Roaming Near Homes?

Experts say that as human settlements expand and wildlife territories shrink, wild animals like lions and hyenas sometimes wander into residential areas in search of food or water. Climate change, land development, and fencing around parks have also contributed to this worrying trend.

Wildlife authorities advise residents living near parks or open lands to stay alert, avoid walking alone at night, and report any sightings of wild animals immediately.

KWS Urged to Strengthen Wildlife Patrols

Following the latest incident, Kenyans on social media are asking KWS to set up more patrol teams around Ongata Rongai and other areas close to wildlife parks. Many believe that if nothing is done, such incidents could lead to tragic human-wildlife conflict.

As of now, KWS has not released an official update about the lioness seen in the CCTV footage.

Residents continue to live in fear, hoping the authorities will act fast and ensure their safety.
