Deaths Reported After Head-on Collision Between Matatu & School Bus

    Molo, Kenya โ€“ March 28, 2025:
A tragic road accident happened on Friday night, March 28, along the Molo-Keringet road. A matatu (public service vehicle) and a school bus carrying children were involved in a deadly head-on collision.

The accident caused several deaths, including the matatu driver and some passengers. Early reports say five people may have died, but police have not confirmed the exact number.

    What Happened

According to witnesses, the accident occurred when the matatu driver lost control while taking a sharp corner. The matatu hit the school bus, which was heading to Keringet. The matatu was going towards Molo at the time of the crash.

Police say rainy weather may have contributed to the accident. The roads were wet and slippery, making it hard for drivers to see clearly.

    Rescue and Injuries

Eyewitnesses quickly rushed to help the victims. The bodies of those who died were taken to Keringet Sub-County Hospital. The injured were taken to different hospitals nearby.

Thankfully, none of the children in the school bus were seriously hurt, confirmed Molo Police Commander Timon Odingo.

    Leaders Speak Out

Kuresoi South MP Joseph Tonui shared a message of condolence on Facebook. He said:

“I am deeply heartbroken by the tragic accident at Kimalany Bridge. This is a great loss to the families and our community. I send my deepest sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones. I also pray for the quick recovery of the injured.”

    Police Warning on Road Safety

This accident happened just days after the National Police Service (NPS) warned drivers to be careful on the roads during the busy Easter season.

The police also announced they would start a crackdown on matatus and reckless drivers. School administrators were reminded to make sure their drivers are careful, especially when carrying students.

The police urged all road usersโ€”including drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and boda boda ridersโ€”to follow traffic rules to prevent such accidents.
