Al Shabaab Militants Kill Six in Deadly Attack on Kenyan Police Camp

At least six people were killed on Sunday after Al Shabaab militants attacked a police reserve camp in Fafi, Garissa County. The attack happened at around 5 a.m. in the Biyamadhow area.

    Attack Details

Police confirmed that four others were seriously injured in the attack. The militants reportedly raided the camp, stealing an unknown number of weapons. Some victims were shot, while others were stabbed. Authorities suspect the attackers also suffered casualties.

    Rising Security Concerns

There are growing fears of more attacks in the region. Reports indicate that militants are regrouping and moving towards Kenya. The Fafi area is near the Kenya-Somalia border, which militants often use to enter Kenya. Locals have raised concerns, saying they have seen armed groups spying on security camps.

    Government Response

Security teams have been sent to the region to track down the attackers. National Police Service spokesperson Michael Muchiri assured the public that more personnel have been deployed to counter future attacks. โ€œThis is an unfortunate incident, but we are making efforts to secure the area,โ€ he said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to a local mortuary, while the injured were hospitalized.

    More Threats in Mandera

Officials say Al Shabaab is planning more attacks in Mandera County. The group seeks revenge after one of its members was arrested by Kenyan security forces for terrorism-related offenses. Intelligence reports also indicate the militants plan to kidnap Kenyan citizens. In response, authorities have strengthened border security.

Mandera has been a hotspot for terrorist activity. Recently, rogue security officials from Somalia killed a Kenyan police officer over a similar dispute.

    Recent Abductions

Meanwhile, security forces are searching for a man abducted by gunmen in Modika, Garissa County. The victim was traveling in a car hijacked by armed men. One passenger was later abandoned, while the driver was taken towards the Somali border.

In another case, three men were kidnapped in Manderaโ€™s Elwak area. They remain missing. Police suspect Al Shabaab militants were behind the abduction. The attack occurred in the same region where five local chiefs were kidnapped last month.

    U.S. Travel Warning

Following these incidents, the U.S. Embassy has issued a new travel advisory. Americans living in Kenya have been warned against visiting counties near the Kenya-Somalia border, including Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, and coastal areas north of Malindi.

Kenyan authorities have not yet responded to the advisory. The embassy cited threats such as terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings as reasons for the warning.

    Conclusion

The rise in attacks has created fear and uncertainty in affected regions. Authorities are working to strengthen security and prevent further violence. However, locals remain concerned about the ongoing threat from Al Shabaab militants.
