Youth Leaders Threaten to Sue IEBC Selection Panel Over Recruitment Bias

Two youth leaders have threatened legal action against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel, accusing it of unfairly excluding young people from the recruitment process.

Alex Matere of the Notable National Youth Leaders Caucus and Kidi Mwaga of the Inter-Party Youth Forum claim the panel, chaired by Nelson Makanda, deliberately sidelined youth applicants.

    Youth Leaders Demand Transparency

In a letter dated Thursday, March 14, Matere and Mwaga demanded that the panel publicly explain how they selected candidates and why young applicants were left out. They also called for an immediate review of the shortlist to include qualified youth candidates.

โ€œOur clients demand a clear and public explanation from the selection panel detailing the criteria used to eliminate youth applicants from consideration,โ€ the letter states.

The youth leaders argue that the recruitment process was biased, suggesting that the outcome was predetermined.

Legal Action If Grievances Are Ignored

Matere and Mwaga have given the selection panel until Saturday, March 16, to address their concerns. If no action is taken, they plan to file a case in court.

This dispute follows the panelโ€™s recent release of the final list of applicants for the positions of IEBC chairperson and commissioners.

    What Happens Next?

The selection panel is now under pressure to respond to these allegations. If the case moves to court, it could delay the appointment of new IEBC officials.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
