Babu Owino Addresses Alleged Rift with Raila

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has confirmed that he remains loyal to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, despite Odinga’s support for Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Speaking during an interview on Ramogi FM, Babu Owino stated that he would continue backing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, even though they have different political opinions.

    No Political Retaliation Against Raila

The legislator dismissed rumors that he was planning to retaliate against Raila Odinga. He emphasized that Odinga is still his leader and deserves respect.

“Our political differences will not stop me from supporting Raila Odinga. He remains my leader, and as a father figure, I cannot oppose him. I love Raila,” Babu Owino said.

He compared their situation to a family, saying, “In a home, a father may favor one child over another. However, the person being supported now has never been part of our house.”

Calls for ODM to Prioritize Its Members

Babu Owino also reaffirmed his commitment to the ODM party, despite ongoing internal disagreements. However, he urged the party leadership to support its loyal members before endorsing leaders from rival political parties.

He highlighted his sacrifices for the party, including multiple arrests during anti-government protests, as a reason why he deserves ODMโ€™s support.

“I have been arrested eight timesโ€”no other MP has faced more arrests than me. I was also abducted and detained for three days. I endured all this because of my love for the party,” he stated.

    Railaโ€™s Endorsement of Governor Sakaja

Babu Owinoโ€™s comments follow Raila Odingaโ€™s recent endorsement of Governor Johnson Sakaja, a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, for re-election in 2027.

On February 10, before traveling to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Raila called on Nairobi leaders to unite and support Sakajaโ€™s leadership.

“As I leave for Addis, I want Nairobi to remain united so that my man here (Sakaja) can focus and deliver on his mandate effectively,” Raila said.

    Conclusion

Despite political differences, Babu Owino remains steadfast in his loyalty to Raila Odinga. He continues to advocate for fairness within ODM and urges the party to support its dedicated members. As 2027 elections approach, the political landscape in Nairobi will likely witness more debates and alliances.
