Chapati Chaos! Babu Owino Blasts Sakaja Over Bizarre Plea to Ruto
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has criticized Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for requesting a chapati-making machine from President William Ruto. Sakaja made the request to support the Dishi na County school feeding program.
Babu Owino Questions Sakaja’s Priorities
In a statement on Wednesday, March 12, Babu Owino questioned why Governor Sakaja was asking for a chapati-making machine instead of addressing other major issues affecting Nairobi residents.
The outspoken MP pointed out that drainage, healthcare, roads, water, and employment should have been prioritized over the chapati machine.
“Of all the challenges facing Nairobi, Sakaja asked the President for a chapati-making machine to produce one million chapatis a day. The city lacks proper drainage, roads are in bad condition, and healthcare is struggling. Unemployment among youth is high. How will Mama Chapati survive if a machine takes her job?” Babu Owino asked.
Sakaja Defends Chapati Machine Request
Governor Sakaja made the request on Tuesday, stating that the Dishi na County program feeds 300,000 students daily. To meet the demand, he said he would need a machine capable of making one million chapatis.
“I am feeding 300,000 children in Nairobi, and I now need to make one million chapatis. I will ask the president to help me with a chapati-making machine,” Sakaja said.
President Ruto Supports Sakaja’s Plan
President Ruto agreed to buy the chapati-making machine and instructed Sakaja to find a suitable supplier.
“The governor has asked me to buy a chapati-making machine to add chapatis to Nairobi’s dish. I have agreed. Now, Governor, find a place where we can buy a machine that makes one million chapatis,” President Ruto stated.
The debate over the chapati-making machine has sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting Sakaja’s plan to enhance the school feeding program, while others, like Babu Owino, argue that Nairobi has bigger issues to address.
