Furious Kenyans Vow to Occupy Jesus Winner Ministry After Ruto Showers Pastor with Millions
Kenyans have vowed to storm Jesus Winner Ministry, led by Bishop Edward Mwai, after President William Ruto attended a service there last Sunday. During the visit, Ruto donated Ksh. 20 million and pledged another Ksh. 100 million.
Speaking at the Roysambu-based church, Ruto praised Bishop Mwai while criticizing other clergy members who frequently oppose his government. He urged them to follow Mwaiโs example and contribute to solutions rather than add to the problems.
“I wish more churches could do what Jesus Winner Ministry is doingโbeing part of the solution instead of worsening issues,” Ruto stated.
He went on to commend Bishop Mwai and his leadership for creating employment opportunities for young people by preparing them for labor export programs.
To further demonstrate his support, Ruto announced several benefits for the church. He allocated a disputed piece of land to the ministry and pledged financial support for its construction projects.
First, he confirmed that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) had handed over 20 acres in Roysambu to Bishop Mwai. This land had been at the center of a long-standing dispute involving Uchumi Supermarkets, which collapsed due to debt.
โYou raised the land issue in your prayers for me, and because you prayed for me to become the Chief of the Armed Forces, God granted me that power. So, I directed the Ministry of Lands to resolve the matter,โ Ruto said.
“As the Commander-in-Chief, I told KDF that this land belongs to the church. A place of worship will be built here, and I will personally help make it happen.”
Ruto then donated Ksh. 20 million of his own money and assured Bishop Mwai that he would gather his friends to raise an additional Ksh. 100 million for the churchโs construction.
โI will start with Ksh. 20 million, and we will organize a fundraiser with my friends to collect another Ksh. 100 million. This church must be built to shame the enemies of our country,” he declared.
He also dismissed critics who have questioned his frequent donations to churches, insisting that his contributions are acts of faith, not political stunts.

“I have been criticized for giving to churches, but when we donate, we give to Godโnot to humans, bishops, or congregations. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that bishops should return money given to God. I am a product of giving, and I will never apologize for it,” Ruto added.
However, his actions triggered backlash on social media, with many Kenyans accusing him of misplaced priorities. They are now planning to protest at Jesus Winner Ministryโs headquarters in Roysambu, using the hashtag #OccupyJesusWinner to rally support for a March 9 demonstration.
Several prominent figures, including lawyer Ndegwa Njiru and blogger Francis Gaitho, have joined the movement, urging Kenyans to show up in large numbers.
“Mark your calendarsโSunday, March 9, we must occupy Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu,” Ndegwa Njiru posted alongside a protest poster.
KANU digital strategist Cornelius K. Rono echoed the sentiment, writing, “Kenyans have a date with Jesus Winner Church this Sunday. Itโs going to be an unforgettable day. #OccupyJesusWinner.”
Blogger Francis Gaitho added pressure, posting, “This is it! Weโve had enough. Kama mbaya mbaya! Kaende kaende! Kufinish kumalo! #OccupyJesusWinner.”
INJECT Party Leader Morara Kebaso also joined in, stating, “CALL TO ACTION! On Sunday, March 9, 2025, let us gather at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu for special prayers for Pastor Edward Mwai Kiongo. We will โforgiveโ him mercilessly.”
Rutoโs remarks on Sunday have deepened divisions between his administration, sections of the church, and the public. Some clergy members accuse him of using religion for political gain while selectively rewarding churches that support his government.
In recent months, several influential Kenyan bishops have rejected political donations, particularly those linked to President Rutoโs administration, in an effort to separate faith from politics.
