Death Trap! Two University Students Drown at Juja’s Infamous ‘Park and Chill’ Spot
Two university students tragically drowned while enjoying a day out at a well-known relaxation spot off Thika Road in the Mugutha area, Juja sub-county. This location, famous for its scenic dam and loved by many outdoor enthusiasts, is considered risky since many motorists park on a sloped area near the water.
A police report, as seen by Citizen Digital, confirmed that the victims were two young men, aged 21 and 22. They had visited the dam for a swimming excursion when the unfortunate incident occurred.
On Sunday, divers from Kiambu County successfully retrieved the bodies from the dam. The remains were then taken to General Kago Funeral Home as authorities continued their investigations into what led to the drowning.
This site had previously caught media attention in January 2023 after a tragic accident where a man and a woman lost their lives when their car plunged into the dam.

Residents in the area recalled that the couple had been having a good time near the dam before the accident happened.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. when people nearby suddenly heard desperate cries for help.
Lucy Muthoni, a local resident, shared her account with Citizen Digital, saying, “I heard a woman screaming. She was struggling in the water, trying to save herself, but no divers were around. When the car sank, she managed to escape through the windows.”
Observations around the dam show scattered empty alcohol bottles, indicating that the area is a popular partying destination often visited by revelers.
Following the drowning incident in 2023, authorities fenced off the area, and a restaurant and bar were later set up within the premises.
Visitors who wished to access the site were charged a fee of Ksh.100, and Wi-Fi services were also made available for customers.
