Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has issued a statement outlining key topics discussed in a meeting with leaders from the Ukambani region. The former Machakos County Governor highlighted six main issues they deliberated on, along with seven key concerns they intend to present to President William Ruto in an upcoming discussion.

Mutua stated that they are preparing to meet with President Ruto to address urgent development matters. These include improving road infrastructure to enhance connectivity and promote economic growth.

During the discussions, the leaders also agreed to bring up concerns about education standards, water supply, and electricity availability in the region. Additionally, they emphasized the need for more employment opportunities, business support, and the appointment of professionals to important positions in the Kenya Kwanza Government.

One of the key leaders present at the meeting was Kibwezi West Member of Parliament (MP) Mwengi Mutuse. Photos shared from the event showed him addressing the gathering. Mutuse played a significant role in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by introducing a motion for his removal in early October. On October 17, Gachagua was officially removed from office after the Senate upheld the National Assemblyโ€™s decision to impeach him.

Apart from the seven concerns to be raised with the President, the Kamba leaders also discussed five additional matters, including ensuring that their people have better access to leadership roles and empowerment opportunities. They also talked about the importance of prioritizing development projects.

According to CS Mutua, unity and transparency were crucial in their discussions. Another key topic was youth empowerment, with leaders committing to mentorship and skills development programs to help young people prepare for leadership roles in the future.

Furthermore, they decided to introduce a community engagement strategy by organizing listening tours in areas with a significant Kamba population. These tours will take place in the three main Ukambani countiesโ€”Kitui, Machakos, and Makueniโ€”as well as in counties with notable Kamba populations such as Nairobi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Taveta, Embu, and Kwale.

As part of their commitment to national development, the leaders outlined an action plan stating that the Kamba community is a vital part of Kenya and should play an active role in the countryโ€™s progress. They stressed the need to harness their potential, take advantage of available opportunities, and establish themselves as key contributors to Kenyaโ€™s growth.

This action plan includes community visits, youth programs, and follow-ups on development projects to ensure that the region continues to progress and benefit from national initiatives.
