Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared that his wife, Pastor Dorcas, had warned him about President William Ruto’s true character before he fully trusted him.
While speaking at the launch of Martha Karua’s newly rebranded People’s Liberation Party on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Gachagua admitted that Ruto had deceived him with his charm and political promises. However, Pastor Dorcas had cautioned him in private, advising him to be careful.
Gachagua recalled that during Ruto’s visits to their home, Pastor Dorcas questioned whether he truly knew the president. At the time, he dismissed her concerns, believing that he fully understood Ruto. However, looking back, he now realizes she was right.
“Pastor Dorcas once asked me, ‘Do you really know this man well?’ I told her I did. She asked again, ‘Are you sure?’ I insisted I knew him. But now, I see that I was wrong. Ruto has deceived us, and we must tell Kenyans the truth. They will soon understand who he really is,” Gachagua said.
Land Controversies and Betrayal
Gachagua also spoke about public land sales under Ruto’s government, alleging that valuable land, including prison land in Nairobi West, was being sold to private investors.
He claimed that these deals were dishonest, with public funds deducted from people’s salaries being used in these transactions, only for the same land to be sold back to Kenyans at high prices.
“If you check the prison land in Nairobi West, it’s worth a trillion shillings. The land is given to investors to build houses, but these houses are being built using deductions from people’s salaries and later sold back to them. The land isn’t being given away for free—President Ruto and his people have sold all the prison land,” Gachagua said angrily.
He further explained that this plan would involve moving prisons to other locations at great expense, raising concerns about government priorities.
“We cannot keep giving away public land without proper planning. This is a scheme to sell prison land, move the prisons elsewhere, and spend huge amounts of money doing it,” he added.
“There is a lot happening behind the scenes, and I will continue revealing the truth bit by bit.”
Supporting Martha Karua
Gachagua also declared his support for Martha Karua, calling her a unifying leader for those who feel sidelined by the current administration.
He dismissed past political differences, stating that their rivalry was only because they were on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
“We have agreed that Martha Karua is our political mother. Many thought I could never work with her because we once competed politically. But we were never enemies—just on different paths. I had always wished we were in the same team, and today we finally are,” he said.
A Call for Courage
In a powerful closing remark, Gachagua encouraged opposition leaders and those facing political persecution to remain strong. He accused Ruto of already shedding the blood of Kenyan youth and warned that any further oppression would only strengthen the call for change.
“To our leaders who are suffering, do not be afraid. Even if he sheds our blood, hasn’t he already spilled the blood of Gen Z? The blood he spills will only help the fight for liberation grow stronger. As leaders, we must be ready to sacrifice for this country,” he declared.
