Former MP & Assistant Minister Dies
Former Baringo North Member of Parliament (MP) Willy Rotich Kamuren has died while undergoing treatment in Nairobi on Friday, February 28.
Reports indicate that Kamuren passed away at a hospital in Nairobi, where he was receiving medical care.
Kamuren was a well-known politician and businessman who played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of Baringo County.
His political journey started in 1963 when he became the first MP for Baringo East, now known as Tiaty Constituency. He was elected under the Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU) party.
In 1983, he was nominated to Parliament and later served as the elected MP for Baringo North from 1988 to 1997 under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party.
Apart from his role as an MP, Kamuren also held a position as an Assistant Minister in the Office of the President.
Outside politics, he was a successful entrepreneur. He owned the Grand Holiday Hotel and Lodge, located along Accra Road in Nairobi.
His contributions to politics and business were highly regarded, and he remained a respected figure in Baringo County.
Family members, friends, and residents of Baringo are mourning his passing. Many remember him as a committed leader who played a crucial role in the development of the region.

Former nominated MP Gideon Keter expressed his sorrow over Kamurenโs passing, saying:
“I am deeply saddened by the death of Hon. Willy Rotich Kamuren. He was a leader who made a real impact through his dedication to Baringo and Kenya. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Mzee.”
He described Kamuren as one of Kenyaโs pioneer leaders, highlighting his influence in shaping the countryโs early Parliament and the lives he touched through his leadership.
Kamurenโs death follows the recent passing of Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, who succumbed to a short illness on Sunday, February 16.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi confirmed Cheptumoโs death, revealing that the senator had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi before he passed away.
