Ruto Tears Into Karua’s PLP: “Con Artists Obsessed with My Name!”
President William Ruto has criticized the newly-formed People’s Liberation Party (PLP), led by Martha Karua, for making him the main subject of their discussions instead of focusing on policies and governance.
On Thursday, NARC-Kenya was officially rebranded to PLP, bringing together several political figures, including Karua, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Jimmy Wanjigi. These leaders made it clear that their goal is to remove Ruto from office in the 2027 elections. Throughout their speeches, they continuously criticized Ruto’s administration and policies.
While addressing a gathering in Taita Taveta County on Friday, President Ruto expressed frustration over what he termed as unnecessary discussions about him. He dismissed PLP’s approach, saying it is a distraction from the real progress that his government, Kenya Kwanza, is making.
“I see some people holding meetings, saying they are forming a new party. But in those meetings, they spend four hours just talking about William Ruto. Is that party about me? Or is it named William Ruto?” he questioned.
He went on to call PLP leaders “deceivers,” urging them to come up with their own identity instead of using his name to build their party.

Ruto also criticized the new party for failing to present solid policies or alternative plans for the country. He pointed out that rather than focusing on tribal politics, they should provide real solutions for issues such as affordable housing, Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and youth employment.
“They should develop policies, strategies, and a vision. Otherwise, they will fail. Tribal politics is no longer in demand; they should focus on selling their agenda to the people. We are constructing roads—what are they doing? We are pushing forward with affordable housing—what is their plan?” Ruto asked.
He further emphasized that his administration is working on improving healthcare, creating jobs for the youth through housing projects, digital employment, labor export, and manufacturing. He challenged the opposition to outline their own solutions instead of resorting to street protests.
“We are advancing UHC across Kenya—what is their alternative? We have a plan for youth employment through affordable housing, digital jobs, labor export, and manufacturing—what is their proposal for the youth? Or do they just want to organize protests? Since when is protesting considered a paying job? These people are wasting too much time,” he remarked.
