PhD President? Gachagua Blasts Ruto for ‘Educated Foolishness’ Amid National Crisis
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticized President William Ruto over his recent visit to the Northeastern region, where he boasted about his PhD qualification.
While touring Garissa County in early February, President Ruto dismissed his critics, arguing that they lacked the academic qualifications to question his decisions.
Speaking on Musyi FM on Wednesday, Gachagua took a swipe at Ruto, stating that despite his PhD, the country was still facing serious challenges.
He pointed out key issues such as the Social Health Authority, university education funding, and the high cost of living, which he blamed on Kenya Kwanzaโs controversial policies.
“We welcome him, but we are not fools. We were betrayed, and now we are alert. Even though we donโt have PhDs, the little education we have is valuable. The President has greatly disrespected Kenyans, but when you look at his PhD, you wonder what it’s for,” Gachagua remarked.

“He has messed up the health sector, university education is struggling, and the cost of living is unbearable. If this is what having a PhD means, then we donโt need someone with one.”
During his visit to Garissa County on February 6, 2025, President Ruto criticized those opposing the nationwide livestock vaccination campaign. He called them ignorant, arguing that they lacked the qualifications to advise him.
“There are some foolish people telling us not to vaccinate our livestock, which would prevent us from accessing the national market. Isn’t that stupidity? Havenโt we been vaccinating our animals for years?” Ruto questioned.
“And when you check, those complaining donโt seem to have studied much. But I have a PhDโฆ Donโt I understand whatโs happening in Kenya? Now, some people with little education want to teach me my job. What do they think they are teaching me?”
Since falling out with President Ruto, Gachagua has been openly criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government, accusing it of poor leadership and failed promises.
