BOMBSHELL: CS Ogamba Kicks Out UoN Boss Amid Allegations of Mismanagement

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has canceled the appointment of Professor Amukowa Anangwe as the Chairman of the University of Nairobi Council.

The announcement was made through an official gazette notice published on Friday, February 21.

Following the notice, Anangweโ€™s term as chairman ended immediately.

The gazette notice stated that the decision was made under the powers given by section 36 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, along with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act. It confirmed that from February 21, 2025, Anangwe would no longer hold the position.

However, the notice did not name his replacement.

The move by CS Ogamba came after increasing pressure for Anangwe to step down.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) had been calling for his removal, accusing him of mismanaging the institution.

Members of UASU had even threatened to go on strike if Anangwe was not removed from his role.

Additionally, in the same gazette notice, CS Ogamba removed Dr. Christopher Andrew Langat from his role as a board member of the Commission for University Education.

Langatโ€™s tenure also ended on Friday, February 21.

Meanwhile, Moi University has also experienced major leadership changes.

According to a memo seen by Nairobi Leo, Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Kosgey has been placed on an eight-month compulsory leave.

The university council, led by Chairman Professor Noah Midamba, stated that Kosgey had accumulated unused leave days. Instead of financial compensation, he was asked to take leave for his well-being and rest.

The council noted that Kosgey had not used his 45-day annual leave for several years, which resulted in his extended absence.

In the meantime, Professor Kiplagat Kotut has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor until further notice.
