Body of Missing City Hall Intern Elvis Munene Found at KNH After 23 Days
The search for Elvis Munene, a City Hall intern and KCA University student, has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) mortuaryโ23 days after he went missing.
Munene vanished on January 29, 2025, prompting a desperate search by his family. Their distress was highlighted by Citizen TV, shedding light on their relentless efforts to locate him.
On the day he disappeared, Munene left home for his internship at the City Hall Annex IT department. Reports indicate that his close friend, Keith Chacha, called him just as he was leaving the office.
The Last Known Moments
According to messages exchanged between Chacha and a family member, the two had gone downtown to buy a phone cover. While there, they were confronted by police officers who arrested Chacha and placed him in handcuffs.
Munene, however, managed to flee but was later caught by a mob at the Kirinyaga RoadโCharles Rubia Road junction. Between 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM, the crowd attacked him, allegedly mistaking him for a thief.
Eyewitnesses say police officers arrived soon after, intervening to stop the beating and calling for an ambulance.
โI saw four young men walking together. They were friends. A dispute broke out, and when I returned, I found one of them had been beaten,โ recounted boda boda rider Charles Kamande.
Another witness, Edward Mwangi, added: “Someone was caught after snatching a phone. As he tried to escape, people grabbed and beat him. The police stopped the attack, and an ambulance took him away. We donโt know what happened after that.”
What Happened at KNH?
Elvis was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he received urgent medical care. He was later admitted to the ICU but, despite doctorsโ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later on Sunday. His body was then moved to the hospitalโs mortuary.
Unaware of his fate, his family continued searching until February 20, when they found his remains at KNH. They identified him by visible head injuries, raising serious concerns about the events leading to his death.
Investigation Underway
Following these revelations, authorities have arrested Chacha and others linked to the case. They are currently being interrogated to uncover the full story.
Detectives are now awaiting a medical report to confirm the exact cause of death before proceeding with a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from City Hall to track Muneneโs last movements.
Several unanswered questions remain about his disappearance and the events that led to the fatal mob attack.
