Court Blocks State from Revoking Jimi Wanjigi’s Firearm License
Former presidential hopeful and businessman Jimi Wanjigi can now breathe easy after the High Court stopped the government from canceling his firearm license.
In a ruling by Justice Bahati Mwamuye on Thursday, the court also barred the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the National Police Service from arresting Wanjigi over firearm-related cases.
Additionally, authorities were prohibited from pressing further charges against Wanjigi’s staff, some of whom were arrested alongside him. Among them were Dancan Odhiambo and Kelvin Ochieng’, who were apprehended outside his Nairobi home on allegations of possessing explosives illegally.
Justice Mwamuye ruled that the arrests and charges against the two were unlawful and a misuse of the law.
This decision comes after Wanjigi’s dramatic arrest in August last year over accusations of illegal gun possession and involvement in unlawful protests.

Following his arrest, Wanjigi condemned the move, calling it illegal and accusing law enforcement of ignoring court orders.
“The DCI has arrested me illegally despite multiple court orders stopping them,” he said.
Months before his arrest, Wanjigi had been vocal on state media and social platforms, criticizing the government’s borrowing habits. He also accused President William Ruto’s administration of corruption, failing to tackle inflation, and doing little to reduce the high cost of living.
In August last year, the High Court in Nairobi granted Wanjigi a Ksh10 million personal bond after he was arrested on August 19 by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The court also directed Wanjigi to surrender his travel documents, including all passports, as he awaited further rulings.
