Kenyan Police Officers Charged with Murder of Two Indian Nationals and a Local Taxi Driver
Thirteen police officers, a National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent, and a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) warden have been formally charged with murder at Kiambu High Court. The officers are accused of killing two Indian nationals and a Kenyan taxi driver in Nairobi’s Ole Sereni area in July 2022.
Court records from the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) reveal that the accused officers allegedly abducted and murdered Mohammed Zaid Sami Kidwali, Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, and Nicodemus Mwania Mwange on the night of July 22-23, 2022, near Ole Sereni Hotel along Mombasa Road.
The prosecution has been instructed to file objections to bail, while a probation officer will prepare a pre-bail report, incorporating statements from the victims’ families in Kenya and India.

The officers, formerly part of the disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), pleaded not guilty before Justice Abigael Mshila.
During the court session, their lawyer, Danstan Omari, claimed the case was politically motivated and urged the court to grant bail, citing that one of the accused had been in custody for over 18 months.
The court has scheduled the case for mention on March 20, 2025, when a ruling on the bail request is expected.
Reports suggest that the two Indian nationals had ties to President William Ruto’s 2022 election campaign. Their disappearance was investigated after President Ruto disbanded the SSU, a specialized police unit linked to extrajudicial killings.
