Jubilee Party Backs Fred Matiang’i for 2027 Presidential Bid

The Jubilee Party has officially endorsed Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Thursday, February 20, 2025, Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni announced that the decision followed consultations with party representatives nationwide.

However, Kioni clarified that while Matiang’i is Jubilee’s preferred candidate, further discussions with Azimio coalition partners will determine the final opposition flagbearer.

“These members, along with others across the country, believe Jubilee should have its own presidential candidate,” Kioni stated.

“This does not mean Matiang’i is the ultimate candidate, but he will represent Jubilee in negotiations to select a single opposition leader to challenge President William Ruto,” he explained.

    Coalition’s Next Steps

Kioni emphasized that selecting the opposition’s main candidate would involve public participation, ensuring an inclusive decision-making process.

“The party has settled on Matiang’i within Jubilee, but he will engage with other coalition leaders to determine the best way forward,” Kioni stressed.

“This choice won’t be made behind closed doors. Kenyans must have a say in who leads them. I’m confident they will make the right decision,” he added.

    Kioni’s Criticism of Ruto’s Leadership

Through a statement on X, Kioni criticized President Ruto’s administration, accusing it of mismanagement and failing to address key issues affecting Kenyans.

“This regime has lost its way! Kenyans are suffering due to reckless leadership, poor priorities, and unfulfilled promises. The government has abandoned the people, dragging the nation into economic crisis and political instability,” his post read.

Kioni reaffirmed Jubilee’s commitment to change, vowing to push for new leadership.

“We will not sit back while Kenyans struggle! We will mobilize, organize, and demand real change. The time for action is now! We urge all patriots to stand with us in holding this administration accountable. Kenya deserves better!”
